Mortgage Lender Definition

A mortgage lender is any organization that makes funds available for mortgage funding. Many mortgage lenders operate as mortgage bankers, originating, funding, and closing mortgages. Other mortgage lenders operate in conjunction with mortgage brokers, allowing the mortgage broker to originate the mortgages while providing funding for the process. If a mortgage lender does not collect origination fees its primary source of income will be the interest accruing on the mortgage loans.
